Benthic habitat survey today at 2pm

Later this afternoon, Lynn, Yasmin, Cassidy and I are going snorkeling in the Waikīkī MLCD to test the benthic habitat monitoring protocol. Today, we have three goals:

  1. Film and take pictures of the entire process of laying a 25m transect line and completing the two different surveys
  2. Conduct photoquadrat surveys with two different cameras to compare the quality of pictures
  3. Time how long it takes to complete the grid point-intercept survey and coral size/frequency survey

The photograph below was taken by Katelin Shugart-Schmidt during a snorkel survey conducted in 2009 in Waikīkī.  Katelin and a few volunteers were conducting a benthic survey similar to the survey we will conduct today.
