Explore The Ocean with Google Ocean!

With video by Sylvia EarlWith Google Ocean, you can now follow us into the water where you’ll see posts embedded with images and videos about some of the fascinating residents of the Waikīkī Marine Life Conservation District (MLCD), such as the humuhumunukunukuapua’a and cauliflower coral.  Coming soon, you’ll also be able to watch short videos demonstrating our reef monitoring activities as well as short clips of interesting behaviors exhibited by fish, invertebrates, and other ocean life observed in Waikīkī.  Unfortunately, our study site is too close to the coast to use the dive feature on our posts.  However, we encourage you to venture out beyond the coastal areas and explore the new dive feature of Google Ocean.

With video by Sylvia EarlGoogle Ocean is one of the new features of Google Earth 5 and it’s a free application!  To take advantage of this new tool, download Google Earth 5, Click on Explore the Ocean layer in Google Earth, and dive into a virtual underwater adventure.  To dive under the water surface, simply zoom in near the water surface, then, simultaneously hold down the shift key and down arrow [ ↓ ].  To learn more about Google Ocean and other exciting new features of Google Earth 5, visit the Google Earth website by clicking on either of the two Google Ocean images above.
