Blue fins aren’t always Bluefin!

What appeared at first to be a juvenile Bluefin Trevally (papio) upon closer examination had yellow spots and faint bars.

Island Jack

This uncommon fish got flagged when entering it into the REEF database.  I love when that happens and I had my camera!  Saw it on the Diamond Head side of the MLCD last Sunday a ways offshore.  On the way in after freezing my petootie off for 1:40 hours I also had the good fortune to encounter the most beautiful and colorful squid I have ever seen.  But of course by then the batteries were dead.

  1. Great post! It’s so easy to mistakenly identify a fish, especially if you see them so often and tend to not get a closer look!
