I want to give a big “Mahalo” to Cassidy, Devon and Rachel for helping me complete two benthic habitat surveys. The visibility was not the best, but the water temperature and weather were much nicer this time. In addition, the coral size and frequency survey was completed so quickly, that I think it is time to incorporate a fish survey with the benthic habitat survey. I will post more on this soon!
Here are a couple pictures from the survey:
- Flying or Helmet Gurnard
- Eel
- Lace Coral (Pocillopora damicornis)
- Mound Coral (Porites evermanni)
- Crustose Coralline Algae
- Our in-house limu specialist, Beth, has indicated that this may be a red limu of the Dasya species
- Diamond Head
- Cassidy measuring coral
- Rachel Snorkeling!
Actually I was doing a fish survey at the same time, a mental survey though!
Wow Heather! What wonderful pictures. The photo of the Mound Coral (Porites evermanni) reminds me of dark chocolate. Love the sun rays in your photo of Rachel snorkeling. Thanks for the coral lessons. ; ) Joni
Flying or Helmet Gurnard !!! Super photo !!! Guess you had to be in stealth mode to get this one.
