eel and goby and puffer, oh my!

These were taken today on the Ewa side of the MLCD.  The stout moray had interesting red blotches in its mouth.  Wonder if it was just pau lunch?

Anyone know what the goby is?

And the puffer … Whitespotted puffer?  No.  Green Blotched puffer?  No.  Big-dark-circles-at-pectoral-fins puffer?  No.  Stripebelly puffer?  Who da thunk?

  1. Hi Mike, due to the quality of the goby picture, I can’t identify it for you. However, I can tell you that the puffer you saw is a stripebelly puffer (Arothron hispidus) and the eel you saw is a stout moray (Gymnothorax eurostus). I can’t see any red markings in the picture, but the patterns in the mouth seem to be the same as the pattern on it’s skin.
