Reef Watch Waikiki headed out to Hanauma Bay yesterday to conduct a REEF survey with our new interns. Because of the summer south swells, the MLCD has not offered optimal survey conditions. Hanauma Bay is one of Oahu’s MLCD’s and an international tourist attraction. Yesterday wasn’t the most optimal for snorkeling, but we had fun none the less! I was rewarded with my first encounter with a Scrawled Filefish, Yellowfin Surgeonfish, and Oval Butterflyfish (pictured below)! Whenever I do a REEF survey, I always try my best to find something new.
- Scrawled Filefish
- Yellowfin Surgeonfish
- Rockmover Wrasse
- Sailfin Tang
- Saddleback Butterflyfish
- Oval Butterflyfish
- Hawaiian Dascyllus and Cauliflower Coral
- Ornate Butterflyfish
- Whitespotted Surgeonfish
I enjoyed the photos and wish I had known you were coming. It would have been fun to “talk fish” with others who are interested in doing so. I snorkel there 5 days a week and submit my surveys to REEF.
Hi Judith, yes it would have been fun to talk fish with you 🙂 we will be sure to let you know in advance the next time we go! Keep up the good work!
