Another Rare Occurance

It’s so exciting when people send photos of creatures they cannot identify!  This was seen on the east side of Oahu and apparently occures worldwide in tropical and subtropical waters.  This is the gigantic egg mass of the Diamond Squid (Thysanoteuthis rhombus).  You can kind of tell how large it is from the size of the coral heads below it.  (Photos: Suzanne H.)

  1. We found one of these in a current line off Maili Point many years ago (early 2000’s?), it looked like a huge slinky!
